My first blog!

I’m fairly computer literate – have a desktop and a tablet, but no smart phone or laptop. At the seniors’ center where I volunteer, I am involved with computer mentoring to members who need assistance learning the basics of email and sending loved ones around the world messages and photos. I enjoy mentoring. But recently I’ve been hearing about blogs, Twitter, and Instagram, mostly from my grandkids.

Being overly curious and a little apprehensive about getting involved in a complex technology, when I am already struggling with Windows 8.1 and Google-me-to-death, I got involved with helping to upgrade the organization’s website and switch to a new platform – WordPress. I was told it was very easy to learn, much like MS Word. So where do I begin?

I decided to find some tutorials on line, for free, that might give me the basics. So I joined WordPress.com and its blog site, and hence my first blog. Just testing the waters and looking for some inner drive that will allow me to learn this new system. Maybe eventually I will be able to communicate with my grandkids – I sure would love to know what they are talking about half the time, lol. It seems to be a very different language than the one I helped them learn when they were little.
